A day of many presentations at Watches & Wonders 2026, including this new Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Lumen from the house of A. Lange & Söhne. A stunning new timepiece that integrates two major complications into the unmistakable design of the LANGE 1: a tourbillon with a stop-seconds mechanism and a perpetual calendar with an outer month ring and jumping displays. All the watch’s indications can be read in the dark. The careful incorporation of both delicate and larger luminous elements allows it to radiate a very special elegance. The front and back of the watch reveal the highly complex, newly developed manufacture calibre L225.1.

A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Lumen
The Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Lumen ingeniously integrates a tourbillon and a perpetual calendar into the unmistakable design of the LANGE 1. The layout of its off-center dial is both striking and harmonious.

The layout of the indications follows the shape of an isosceles triangle: an imaginary vertical straight line connects the outsize date, the retrograde day-of-the-week indicator, and the subsidiary seconds with the moon phase display. The center of the hours and minutes display forms the apex of the triangle. Unlike conventional layouts, the months are represented by a rotating outer ring. The leap year indicator is located in a small window at 6 o’clock. All calendar indications jump instantaneously, ensuring they are clearly visible at all times. The advance mechanisms can be activated simultaneously or individually using the correctors on the side of the case. The calendar mechanism is designed so that, if the watch runs continuously, it will only require manual correction on March 1 of the secular year 2100.

Apart from its distinctive shape, it is based on two other design principles: contrast and transparency. Thus, the bright, clear platinum case contrasts with the dark dial and the hand-stitched black alligator leather strap. On the dial itself, the rhodium-plated gold hands and appliques and the white scales offer optimal legibility against the black background. This same principle of contrast is found in the movement, which alternates between bright polished surfaces and dark matte ones. Furthermore, the transparency of the dial is a structural necessity. Light charges the indications behind it with luminous energy, making them glow in the dark. This special configuration of the dial and its luminescent elements gives the watch a uniquely elegant design, both day and night.
All indications are photoluminescent, which is why they can be clearly read even in the dark. The meticulous combination of large and delicate surfaces provides an elegant and nuanced light display. The composition of each “Lumen” indication is based on an innovative and complex dial architecture.

The main attraction is the photoluminescent outsize date, which makes the delicate mechanism consisting of the tens cross and units disc visible in the dark. It also debuts the first photoluminescent moon phase display with an integrated day/night indicator. Behind the moon, a celestial disc rotates once clockwise every 24 hours. During the day, a clear, starless sky is visible; at night, the sky turns dark with countless photoluminescent stars. The moon gradually emerges on the celestial disc, accurately reproducing the actual shape of the Earth’s satellite at that moment. The deviation from the real lunar cycle is only one day every 122,6 years. The luminous coating makes the leap year indicator at 6 o’clock stand out with the same intensity as the outsize date. The hands for the hours, minutes, seconds, and day of the week glow with much greater delicacy. All other indications, scales, appliques, and the outline of the moon are backlit, appearing with a nuanced luminescence.

The 950 platinum case has a diameter of 41.9 mm and a thickness of 13 mm. It features a sapphire crystal and a sapphire crystal caseback.
The semi-transparent dial reveals the manufacture Lange calibre L225.1, self-winding, crafted to the highest Lange quality standards, and decorated and assembled by hand. It is precisely adjusted in five positions and features a central unidirectional winding rotor with a 950 platinum oscillating weight. It consists of 685 components and has a power reserve of 50 hours.

The strap is made of hand-stitched black alligator leather.
