The perpetual calendar is one of the most noble, desirable, and complex complications in haute horlogerie. However, it poses a historic challenge for the user: if the watch is left in the box and stops, manually resetting the date, month, and leap year can become a real headache.
To solve this once and for all, Vacheron Constantin has once again revolutionized the rules of mechanical watchmaking. The Maison presents the evolution of the Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar, a masterpiece of engineering that optimizes its cutting-edge Caliber 3610 QP to extend its power reserve to an astonishing 70 days.
Join us to discover how this prodigy works, featuring a dual oscillator and a new openworked aesthetic that redefines contemporary timekeeping.

How does the Twin Beat system work? The secret of dual frequency
The genius of this model lies in its patented dual-frequency system controlled directly by the user. The watch does not have just a single balance wheel regulator, but two independent gear trains connected to a dual coaxial barrel:
- Active Mode (5 Hz / 36,000 vph): When wearing the watch on your wrist, it runs at a high frequency to ensure maximum chronometric precision. In this mode, the power reserve is 4 days.
- Standby Mode (1.2 Hz / 8,640 vph): If you are going to take the watch off for a while, simply press the pusher at 8 o’clock. The watch stops the high-frequency balance wheel and activates a low-frequency balance wheel with a larger diameter. Since it consumes much less energy, the power reserve is extended up to 70 days!
The most impressive thing about this manual-winding caliber, which is only 6 mm thick, is that the transition is instantaneous and does not interrupt the power flow. The time and calendar functions continue to operate meticulously without losing a single second.

Energy optimization: Instantaneous jumps with zero extra consumption
Compared to the 2019 concept version, Vacheron Constantin engineers have managed to gain an additional 5 days of power reserve (going from 65 to 70 days) thanks to a redesign of its three differentials and the perpetual calendar module.
Normally, the instantaneous jumping date and month discs require a massive power peak that affects the watch’s accuracy. To prevent this, the brand has patented a dual-gear winding mechanism that requires four times less torque than conventional systems. This extreme efficiency is what allows the watch to keep beating autonomously in a drawer for over two months.

Haute Horlogerie Couture: An openworked sapphire and platinum dial
The new Traditionnelle Twin Beat is not only a technical revolution; it is a visual delight. Protected by a 950 platinum case measuring 42 mm in diameter and a mere 12.3 mm in thickness, the watch debuts an extremely contemporary openworked architecture.
- The Dial: Made of transparent sapphire, it is divided into sections. The upper segment features an 18-karat gold plate with a spectacular hand-crafted slate-gray guilloché. The lower segment reveals the movement’s mainplates treated with an anthracite-gray NAC galvanic bath.
- Enhanced Legibility: The power reserve indicators (with a dual scale for active and standby modes), the day, and the month have been laser-engraved to give them a frosted finish. This creates a perfect contrast with the skeletonized structure of the watch.
- The Caseback: Visible through the sapphire back, it showcases hand-beveled bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève, creating a harmonious bi-color interplay between the dark fixed parts and the gold gears.
To round off the ensemble, Vacheron Constantin has opted for a modern textured black technical calfskin leather strap, hand-stitched with a striking red thread and fitted with a platinum buckle.
