There are watches that define an era, others that define a style, and then there is the Seiko SKX009. That model which, no matter how many fine watchmaking pieces pass through your collection, always has a reserved spot in your watch box and, above all, on your wrist.
As you can see in the photo I’m sharing today, the SKX009 is not a watch to be hidden away in a display case. It is a tool, a true “tool watch” that comes to life when it makes contact with its natural element: water.

Why Do I Still Love the SKX009?
If you are a watch enthusiast, you know that the SKX009 (Seiko’s eternal “Pepsi”) was the gateway to this world for countless collectors. But what made it so special?
- The “Pepsi” bezel: That combination of navy blue and vibrant red is not just aesthetics; it is a hallmark of identity that makes it recognizable from miles away.
- The robustness: It is built to last. With its ISO diver’s certification, 200 meters of water resistance, and a case that firmly hugs the wrist, it is the ideal companion for any adventure, whether diving or simply facing the day-to-day.
- The versatility: As seen in the photo, the Jubilee style bracelet gives it a retro and comfortable touch that few watches can match, but it also looks perfect with a Z22 rubber strap or a NATO strap. It is a chameleon.
Beyond the Specifications
Beyond its automatic movement or its legendary lumen, what truly defines the SKX009 is its soul. It is an honest watch. It doesn’t try to pretend to be something it’s not. It is functional, durable, and has its own history forged over decades of use by divers, military personnel, and enthusiasts worldwide.
Personally, I love to capture that essence in images. Seeing how the reflections play on the crystal and how the water highlights the lines of its case reminds me why, even years after Seiko decided to discontinue it, it remains an impossible-to-ignore benchmark.
What about you? Do you have an SKX in your collection, or is it one of those pieces you have your eyes on? Let me know in the comments.
