Panerai Luminor PAM01731 and Luminor Destro PAM01732

This week will be packed with novelties in the watchmaking world thanks to Watches and Wonders 2026, now with the new Luminor PAM01731 and Luminor Destro PAM01732 from Panerai. These models pay direct tribute to the 1960s Luminor design, celebrating the Maison’s origins as a secret supplier of professional instruments to the Italian Navy. The Luminor identity—robust case, crown-protecting bridge, luminous numerals, and sandwich dial—is faithfully preserved, offering connoisseurs a contemporary interpretation of this military heritage.

Panerai Luminor PAM01731 and Luminor Destro PAM01732

The Luminor PAM01731 and Luminor Destro PAM01732 draw inspiration from historic Panerai watches, starting with the iconic Ref. 6152/1 from the 1960s and, more recently, the Luminor PAM00372 launched in 2011. The architecture of the Luminor case reflects an evolution guided by purpose and performance, as well as the choice of large manual-wind calibers, selected for their reliability.

For the first time, the 6152/1 case shape, with its robust 47 mm presence, is adapted to a 44 mm size. The new PAM01731 and PAM01732 are inspired by the original volumetric geometry, featuring a true cushion-shaped caseband, a flat crown-protecting bridge, and contrasting polished and brushed components. The result preserves the structural integrity and proportions of Panerai’s historic design language in a size optimized for modern wear.

Both watches maintain vintage aesthetic features. The 44 mm steel case is complemented by a domed sapphire crystal, a detail that recalls the optical effect of the Perspex used in 1960s Luminor models. This element enhances both depth and legibility. The sapphire caseback reveals the manual-wind calibre P.6000, a Manufacture movement with a three-day power reserve. Both offer water resistance up to 30 bar (300 meters).

The Luminor PAM01731, with its tobacco-toned dial, reintroduces a deep brown color to the Maison’s portfolio. Its sandwich construction, formed by two overlapping plates for greater and prolonged visibility in any light condition, combined with the small seconds at 9 o’clock, reflects the historic expression of this reference. It is complemented by a vintage dark brown calfskin strap and a second rubber strap in the same shade, making it the ideal companion for diving expeditions.

In the Luminor Destro PAM01732, the crown-protecting bridge is located on the left side of the case, following the tradition of military watches that allowed divers to use instruments like a compass or depth gauge with their left hand free. Giuseppe Panerai conceived this configuration specifically to optimize divers’ capabilities during their missions, allowing the watch to be worn on the right wrist, with the protective bridge ensuring comfort and ease of use underwater. The matte blue dial features numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock and a clean display without a small seconds counter, offering a distinctive interpretation of the Luminor’s visual codes. The watch is accompanied by a straight vintage light brown calfskin strap and a second blue rubber strap.
