To celebrate the festivities of the Day of the Dead, MIDO pays tribute once again to rich Mexican traditions by combining artisanal folklore with high Swiss micro-engineering. For this 2026 special edition, the Le Locle manufacture introduces this iconic celebration for the first time to the retro-inspired geometry of the Multifort TV collection, presenting the new Multifort TV Big Date Special Edition “Día de los Muertos ALEBRIJES” (Ref. M049.526.11.081.02).

Folklore, alebrijes, and dynamic dial art
Inspired by the mythical fantastical creatures born from Mexican folk art, the gradient gray-to-black dial becomes a true miniature canvas. At its center, an expressive calavera (skull) shares the spotlight with intricately rendered alebrije motifs crafted using twelve colored lacquers and sunken indices in negative relief.

The true visual spectacle unfolds in the dark: the dial takes on a striking nighttime dimension thanks to the combined use of three distinct shades of Super-LumiNova®, illuminating the skull and mythical creatures with a mesmerizing glow.

Steel case and maximum strap versatility
The 40 x 39.2 mm stainless steel case alternates satin-finished and polished surfaces across its three-piece construction. Featuring sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and a distinctive sandblasted dot at 12 o’clock on the bezel, the structure ensures water resistance up to 100 meters (10 bar) via its screw-down crown.

To suit any occasion, this special edition includes three easily interchangeable strap options featuring a quick-change system: an integrated steel bracelet with polished central links, an elegant polished steel Milanese mesh bracelet, and a bold red textured rubber strap.

Swiss mechanics and signature touches
At 12 o’clock, the collection’s signature Big Date complication takes center stage with a playful thematic twist: the digit “1” on the date disc is shaped like a bone.
Visible through the transparent sapphire case back is the automatic MIDO Caliber 80 (ETA C07.651 base), adjusted in three positions and operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Fitted with an anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring and an oscillating weight decorated with Côtes de Genève, the movement delivers a robust power reserve of up to 80 hours.
