Seiko Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Fan-Selected Limited Edition: The Community’s Choice

| |

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Japanese manufacture’s first diver’s watch (originally launched in 1965), Seiko invited watch enthusiasts worldwide to choose the design for a special commemorative edition. Following the vote in the “1965 Diver New Model Voting Campaign”, the community selected its favorite from four dial variants inspired by the changing light over the sea.

The final result is the Seiko Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Fan-Selected Limited Edition, a timepiece featuring a Brilliant Blue dial and bezel that captures the reflection of the midday sun on the ocean surface.

Dial and Wave-Mark Pattern

The dial of this limited edition stands out not only for its vibrant blue hue—which shifts in intensity depending on the angle of light—but also for its custom engraved texture. It features the pattern inspired by the traditional case-back wave mark (used by Seiko since 1975 as a symbol of water resistance and technical reliability). First introduced on the two 60th-anniversary commemorative editions, this wave pattern adds unique three-dimensional depth and exceptional legibility underwater.

Ergonomics and New Micro-Adjustment Clasp

Housed in a stainless steel case measuring 40.0 mm in diameter, 13.0 mm in thickness, and 46.4 mm lug-to-lug, this model preserves the balanced proportions of the iconic 1965 62MAS while adhering to modern manufacturing standards.

One of its key technical upgrades is the new quick-adjust clasp system: by pressing the side push-buttons simultaneously, the wearer can fine-tune the bracelet length directly on the wrist in six 2.5 mm increments (up to 15 mm total). This mechanism comfortably accommodates wrist expansion throughout the day or changes in pressure while diving.

Caliber 6R55 and Diver’s 300M Specs

Beating inside is the in-house automatic Caliber 6R55, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivering a 72-hour power reserve (3 full days). The timepiece boasts guaranteed water resistance up to 300 meters (30 BAR), a screw-down crown, a screwed case back, a curved sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating, and high-contrast LumiBrite on the hands, indices, and bezel zero-marker.
